Took my " old shape " Santa Fee off road last weekend and successfully waded across a river at a depth of 500mm or 20" ( measured ) accompanied by two Discoverys who were somewhat taken aback at the Hyundais ability.

We then travelled in convoy to tackle a mile of mud and ruts where again the Santa Fee overcome all obstacles.

All this on standard road tyres as it came from the factory.

Anyone else out there using their vehicle off road ?

What is it capable of ?

Sounds like you had fun.  There is one aspect of your journey that may be of concern.  20" of water is fairly deep for any vehicle to cross.  Differentials have breather plugs on the top side that if submerged, will let water leak inside.  Off-roaders than routinely ford rivers and streams plumb these vents with tubing and hoses somewhere up on the frame or higher to prevent this.  I'd also check the CV boots on the drive axles for cracks and get those regreased and repaired, or replaced, as water has gone inside those as well.

Yes i am aware of the possibility of water seeping into places that it shouldn't but this is too much fun!

Proper off road tyres next ?

Another outing due soon.
