I have a 98 Sonata, bought it used with 66k miles. 1 year later with 74k miles the timing belt broke while I was on a trip. Cost $2500 to replace the engine with a used one. I wouldn't wait too long.

Remember timing belt is warrantied to 60k miles. When you do change it make sure to change the timing belt, belt tensioner and balance shaft belt also. If the timing belt breaks or comes apart and you are out of warranty make sure to change the crankshaft position sensor and crank blade also.
