Ok, I'm looking at buying a used hyundai accent. I havent set my eyse on a particular car yet. I just wanted to come in here and get the good, the bad and the ugly from the experts in here.

Any particular years have known serious problems?

How many miles will these cars typically go for before they start having serious engine problems(150k, 200k)?

Were there any changes year to year that made a particular year better than the others?

I have it set in my mind that these cars run well for around 100k miles then they start becoming a maintenance nightmare.... Am I wronge?

I'm drawn to these cars because of the cheap price and great gas mileage, anything you can offer would be helpful, anything I should keep an eye out for, etc.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi there. I have a 2001 1.5 CDX accent automatic petrol 50000 miles in the UK. Great car. Great milage per gallon. 40mpg on the motorway, 25 in the town. I do long milage and hence I have converted to bi-fuel (LPG)

With LPG you get 60-65mpg for the same price of petrol which would give you 40 mpg. I have done 20000 miles with LPG, running smooth, got back the money spent on LPG conversion after 20000miles by saving on the price of petrol. From now on I am effectively paying 60p for the same milage as I would get for one litre of petrol £1.05. No London congestion charge and less road tax too.

These cars are cheap and will go for more tahn 100K. So if you buy one which has done 30000 miles for a small price, you can have good value for the money motoring.

You can also try Vauxall second hand cars which come factory fitted LPG bi fuel.
