I have a 2006 Sonata with the auto headlight feature, after driving at night and turning the car off and locking the door with the remote, the headlights go off, however the parking lights front and rear stay on. I open the car up and twist the light switch to off and the parking lights stay on. After going back and forth they finally turn off. The dealer has replaced the remote door locking module, I think they were looking at the wrong lights, the flasher lights blink when you activate the remote but do not stay on.

When using the fob to lock/unlock the car remotely, the parking lights are suppose to blink once when you lock the car and blink twice when you unlock the car.  If you hit the lock button twice on the remote, the horn should beep once as well as the parking lights flashing.  I think you remote lock system is working as designed.

Yes Ken, you are almost right, the lights that blink when using the remote is actually the hazard lights(amber), but my problem is the tail lights on the rear(red) and the parking lights on the front are staying on, the hazard lights flash as you described when using the remote.

Do the lights remain on if the control switch on the turn signal stalk is set to off rather than auto before you turn the key off?

Yes, they do remain on after driving the car with the lights on, either in the on switch position or in the auto position. The headlights will go off imediately but the parking lights will stay on even if you turn the switch to the off position. I will usually turn the switch back on and off and even restart the car, then they will cut off after several attempts. The worst part is it will not do this every time.

Thanks

I think the problem resides with an I/C board called the "body control module" that is responsible for controlling a number of features including the automatic headlight system.  The board has several surface mounted relays, I think one of those feeding power to the parking lights has become sticky.  I have heard of this happening before.  The BCM is an expensive item to replace, but should be covered under the 60K bumper-to-bumper warrenty.  You need to be persistent with the dealership and hope the problem will manifest itself for the service manager.
