Hi everyone!

Just bought my first Hyundai yesterday, a 2008 Accent.  It is the base model but from the looks of it you would never know.  Sweet colour too! (bright red).

I have had something bugging me since I bought it though which is kind of ruining my new car experience!!!  Before I bought it they let me take it home for the night and my speed demon brother took it for a ride, seeing what it could do.  In the new manual it says not to rev the engine above 4000 RPM for the first 2000km, when my brother was testing it he was changing gears at nearly 5500.  He did it two times from 0 to 60.  Please tell me this has no effect on the car and help me put my mind at ease.

I am not sure how it effcts your car maybe none if it only happend a few times on a warmed up engine.

I would not let the speed demond drive your new car anymore.

I have a brother who likes to beat on other peoples cars when he uses them but treats his like gold.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase.  First, don't let your brother borrow your car again.  That's just rude to beat on and abuse a new car that is not his.  However, I highly doube there he did any damage.  There are two schools of thought when breaking in an engine.  One is to baby it and one is to drive it hard.  I'm anot one to baby a car but I also don't believe one should abuse the engien when new.  I think driving it normally is just fine.
