60000 mile service check

rjacks58 -> 60000 mile service check (4/27/2008 7:42:27 PM)

I am a proud owner of a 2004 xg 350, enjoy the car and reliability. Can someone explain to me that I have to pay over a thousand dollars for the 60000 miles service check, it floored me. Is there any rebates from the manufacture to supplement this cost?

Maybe that includes timing belt change and tranny flush.

Yep, at 60K the timing belt needs replacing as well as the engine coolant and trans fluid.  And sorry there are no rebates to cover the cost.  It's part of the normal maintenance.

Here's what I advise:  Take the maintenance schedule from the owners manual with you to the dealership.  Most dealerships package major service packages to include both the required services and other services recommended by the dealer.  Strip out the recommended services and get only those that are required by the manual.  By doing this I bet you can save well over $100.  For my 30,000 service I went from $329 to less than $200 (basically a transmission flush, coolant flush and oil change).  Add to that the cost of the timing belt replacement and you should be good to go.

Only because the dealerships are Money Hungry Grabbers when it's time for you to maintain your car by the warranty schedule..I hate it also ..but I pay it ...under duress.

I will clarify my post.  Everything they suggested changing is what should be done but the $1k price is high.  It should only be about $700-800 in my opinion.

I just bought my 2004 XG a few weeks ago and the dealership has told me the to change timing belt, water pump will cost $635 + tax. My local mechanic says we will even do the serpentine belt for $695 out the door. I see that you guys mention the tranny should be flushed is there anything else. There was no owners manual when I bought it.

The 60K service should include:
 - oil and filter change
 - air filter change
 - engine coolant flush
 - trans fluid flush
 - replace timing belt
 - new plugs
 - rotate tires
 - and a bunch of "inspections" (vapor hose, gas cap, drive belt, brake hoses, brake pads, rotors, calipers, suspension, power steering hoses, driveshafts, CV boots, A/C and refrigerant, fuel lines, PCV, brake fluid, exhaust system, ball joints)
