ORIGINAL: RknRusty Sorry I don't have the exact answer because I've not yet been into a Hyundai engine, but generally, if you have the pan off, you should always replace what's recommended on an oil pump. It is, of course, critical to the health of your power plant. I always rebuilt the oil pump when opening the bottom end of all the V8's I've worked on. The Hyundai 4-cyl is not a V8. The oil pump is part of the cover attached to the front of the engine. It's not inside the oil pan. Unless there is a problem with the pump, there is no need to rebuild it. ORIGINAL: bernd Thanks, but I'm not rebuilding the oil pump. That is accessed from behind the crankshaft pulley, and thats a whole different job in itself. I only have the oil pan off. I was just wondering if the oil pump pickup tube gasket is something that should be replaced while the oil pan is off. Unless you need to take the tube off the pump or if you can see physical damage to the gasket, there is no need to replace the gasket.
