pj 61 -> speedo not working sometimes (5/7/2008 6:47:24 PM)

Over the last couple of months, my speedo has been getting worse. It used to stop working for a while and then come back while driving around - dropping in and out. Now it is lucky to be working at all, more not working than working, it's a surprise to see it. The car is a 2000 Sonata 2.5 V6, with about 146K klms. Is it the speed sensor that everyone is talking about? I have had an auto electrician take a quick look under the hood and he pointed out it could be that or that? He pointed out a switch/sensor under the air intake with ( I think 2 wires ) comming from it, the other is under the manifold behind the engine with 3 wires comming from it? Can someone help in any way as to the problem described and which one it is likely to be ( before I spend money on it ) or is it something else all together. Thanks in advance ;-)
