I would forget the HID upgrade. Unless they were offered from the factory with HID overseas or something, I would concentrate on finding the best bulb you can.
You low beam should be an H7. I will tell you the best standard bulbs I''ve seen are Phillips bulbs that you cannot get in the US. I have ordered them from the UK before. Try these out for size:
