My daughter has a 1999 Elantra and the check engine light is on. We ran the code reader on it and it came back with the following:

P0712, P1613 and P0141. I have the descriptions on these, but am not sure which route to follow, or if something is causing all three to show up. Any help or suggestions?

Thanks,

Jason

The P0141 is just a bad O2 sensor (the one after the cat).

The other 2 might be combined.  P0712 is a problem with the trans fluid temp sensor.  Either the sensor is bad (probably) or the wiring is bad.

P1613 is a bigger problem.  That means there is trouble with the TCM (Transmission Control Module).  It's possible the P0712 is causing the P1613 code or it could be that the TCM is bad.  I'd get that looked at by a dealer or a good trans shop.

Thanks for the info!!  I'll do the O2 sensor and then look at the TFT sensor to see if it takes care of the other issue. If it was the TCM, would the car run funny? I don't notice it running bad at all.

The TCM wouldn't really cause the engine to run funny but it might cause strange shifting.
