Jahooli -> Replacing Coupe seats (5/21/2008 2:02:01 PM)

Hi all

I'm new to this forum and I'm posting now as I especially need quite urgently the answer to a question relating to Coupe seats. I have a year 2000 (W reg) 1.6 Coupe, it's a basic model without leather interior, A/C etc but I still love it to bits. However the upholstery has defintitely seen better days and I am interested in mod-ing it up to some good condition used leather seats. However the seats I'm looking at getting are from a newer 2003 Coupe, would they fit my car? Please help asap!

I'm sure they can be made to fit.  I doubt they will bolt directly in but if you use the seat mounts from your original seats on the new seats, they probably can be modified to fit.

There is an alternative to buying used or new seats that you would have to modify to fit the car.  Try to locate a local shop that specializes in automotive upholstery.  Such a shop can strip your seats down to the frames, replace the foam and then cover the seats in leather, or if budget is a consideration, leather inserts on the seating surfaces and backs.  If the existing frames are in good shape, your old seats will feel like brand new.  Down side?  The car will be without seats during the restoration.  Be sure to ask for both a cost and time estimate.

The upsaide to modding the mounts to install the leather seats is that they are probably cheaper than having the original seats re-upholstered.  However, re-upholstering the seats will give you new seats and you can have the rear seats done to match.
