Hello Fellow Forumites, My 1999 Elantra has run great up until the other day. At the same time the check engine light came on, it started skipping like crazy. I checked the plugs, they're ok. Nearest Hyundai dealer is a ways away and I don't trust many area tech's. Are there any ways to check codes by one's self? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

What do you mean by "Skipping"?? Is the engine sputtering?? Loss of power?? Might be something simple if you can be a bit more discriptive.

Brant, Thanks. The skip is steady. I would swear someone removed a plug wire. Regardless of RPM, driving situation, the skip is there. Never gets worse, never gets better. I pulled the plugs and they all look to be working. It doesn't seem easy to pull the plug wires one by one to see which cylinder is missing. Like I say, it's like a dead hole....And it started exactly the same time the "Check Engine Light" came on. Thanks!
