My girlfriend bought a used 07 Hyundia Tuscon about 4 months back. I have heard that since she bought it used she doesnt get the remainder of the 10/100,00 warranty, she only gets the remainder of 5/50,000 warranty. Can anyone tell me for sure what kind of warranty she has left? Also she did not buy it used from a Hyundia dealer, not sure if that matters or not.

Thanks

There are 2 warranties on new Hyundai cars.  One is a 10y/100K mile drivetrain warranty (covers the engine and transmission only); the other is a 5y/60K mile bumper to bumper warranty (covers just about everything else).

When you purchase a used Hyundai, you get the remainder of the 5y/60K mile bumper to bumper but you only get a remainder of a 5y/60k drivetrain warranty.  So basically you only lose 5 years and 40K miles on the drivetrain.  Both are determined from when the car was originally purchased by the first owner.

Unless the original owner had a HPP policy then you can get the policy transferred into your name by calling hyundai. (thats if a HPP policy exists on the vehicle) You can have your local dealer run the vin to see if a HPP policy exists
