For some reason, the engine revs up a bit at stoplights. Also, sometimes the engine dies when pulling in somewhere. Any idea what does this intermittent condition.

I''d check the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve first, then possibly the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

I''m hearing so much that this could be the fuel pump. Would that make it rev to 3 grand at a stoplight.

For a non-mechanic person, would it be worth it to research and troubleshoot myself? Or should I have my mechanic take a look? The same thing is happening on my ''04.

I agree with NovaResource''s diagnosis, but I suggest you check for a vacuum leak first. It''s an easy first step and cheap to fix if such is the case. Sometimes the IAC or MASS air flow sensor get confused when a quantity of "unmetered" air is getting into the engine.

NR forgot to suggest that a code scanner be used to pull any error codes residing in the cars computer. Many auto parts stores will do this for free (hoping to sell you a part). Sometimes their interpretation of codes is good, sometimes it is not. If you do get some codes, many forum members will try to help you sort them out if posted. Yes, take the car to a mechanic if you feel you are over your head.

Good advice. First check the vacuum lines for leaks and get a basic code scanner. It is an excellent tool to have.
