On an Elantra 2000 GLS 2.0, is there a way to put A/C off even on defrost positions?

And about fuel economy, how is yours? Mine is around 10L/100km (28.2 MPG) in the city and I find it high. No CEL, no leak to manifold..

Why would you want the A/C off when in defrost?  The A/C removed humidity from the car and makes the defrost work better.
