Diesel versions of the Hyundai product line have never been sold in the U.S.  While U.S. owners appear to have much better tech support from Hyundai via the HMA service site, no information is available on diesel engines.  The gasoline 1.5 engine needs 3.0 liters (without filter change) or 3.3 liters (with a filter change). Diesel engines are typically design to hold more oil.   I am guess the difference in the 3.5 and 4.1 liter capacity reflects an oil change either without or with a filter change.

I agree.  Start with 3.5L.  Run the engine for a few minutes to circulate the oil through the system and the filter.  Then shut off the engine and in about 5 minutes after, check the dipstick.  If it''s low, add the remaining .6L to the engine.
