I'm looking at the Hyundai line up, and like what I see. However, its what I can't see, and don't know that interests me. I'm interested in knowing of any known problems that Hyundai may have in their vehicles. Especially of interest is the major components, like engines, trannys, etc. I like the Santa Fe model and would like to know their track record, as far as engine longivity, reliability, any major problems, basically which one is best? Any problems with rust through in any cretain areas? Any certain paint colors have fading or flaking problems? What to look out for when looking at a used Santa Fe? Any certain years better or worst than others? I prefer Manuals over Automatics, and like in-line 4 cyl. engines. I want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks

Hi, Andrew here. The Hyundai range, if my expereince is anything to go by, is exceptional value for money. I find that with most vehicles, regardless of brand, particularly if "pre loved" you must remember that usually you are buying an unknown unless you can see a service history. My own vehicle(Hyundai Lantra) is now 7 years old and has spent its life quite close to Sydney Harbour and the associated salt air. With regular cleaning the vehicle shows no sign of rust ANYWHERE. The mechanicals are great. The vehicle has covered 150,000+ kilometres and has NEVER missed a beat. This is because in areas such as ignition, Hyundai went to the trouble of licensing their vehicle management systems from Bosch. BMW's and Hyundais of similar vintage have the same vehicle management systems. The paint has never faded, although again gets regular cleaning and suffers no abuse. The vehicles are very sound. Trust your own judgement and go with your own thoughts. I can strongly recommend them to you. Cheers, Andrew.
