I have a 2001 Elantra which we paid off this week. It refused to start for the first time today. Has a new battery (2 months), cables clean and connected like new. Headlights, console lights, radio, overhead light all work fine and very bright. But when the key is turned everything dims down completely without a trace of the engine turning over. Let it set for a minute, and the lights and everything are working fine again, until the key is turned, then no juice. Any ideas?

could be the ignition coil. check your fuses, and possibly the silinoid.

can you hear the starter turning or clicking at all? the solenoid on the starter is definitely a possibility. any loose ground wires in the engine bay? and is it manual or auto?

Just a shot, have ya tested the alternator?? Seems kinda strange for a battery to die so early on but, it wouldn't be the first I've heard of such a thing. My two sense!!
Good Luck!!
