Well folks I've just gotten myself a '97 Accent 2 door supposedly a hatchback but looks like it's got a regular trunk to me... It's a 5 speed with a 16 valve engine... Unfortunately I don't know what the size is I bought it on e-bay. I'll be picking it up this weekend. Need to put the trans back in it and get a new taillight then replace the windshield and I should have a good running car. What do you guys think?

Welcome aboard!!! You don't the price. In any case sounds like a handyman's special. Over course with some TLC she should give you years of good reliable transportation.

If its like my 99, its a hatchback and that little cover in the rear is removable, rear seat folds flat and I use mine like a pickup truck.

I would think a 97 is a 12 valve, unless somebody put a newer engine in it.

I have a 95 and it has the same body style and engine. For that body style, the stock block is a 1.5 liter 12 valve.

I don't know I haven't gotten the car yet. Looking like I'm going to pick her up this upcoming weekend. Buying it for $53.51 LOL. It is the 1.5 engine I only said 16 valve cuz I'm a mutsu/dodge man and the guy selling it said it was a 16v. It IS a 2 door manual. And I'm looking at letting a friend drive it once I get her up and running (After I get a new title for it LOL). But hex even for the price... If it lasts a month it's made it's $ lol...

Well I have the car home now and it IS a 16 valve. At least that's what's plastered on each side of car. It says 16V and through it DOHC. Either way now I need to find some small misc. parts to get her road worthy and I'm good to go here . I'll have pics posted of her shortly I hope.

LOL I'm in the middle of the process of installing the trans again... The engine in the pics (Once I get them transfered from my laptop to another comp) are with the engine hanging from the mount unsupported from underneath or the other side. Unfortunately I am having problems locating a computer for the DOHC engine that the GT's came with. I'm trying to avoid spending close to $500 for a new one but junkyards seem to have a lack of the ECUs I need.
