I have heard from a few that fuel injector cleaners added to gas may do some good for the injectors but can do harm to in tank fuel guages and Oxegen sensors etc.
I am curious as to the feelings of this group as to what harm can be done when using those additives or is it just old wifes tales that they can actually cause problems .

William,
Welcome aboard!! As for your question, since I purchased my Accent GT in September of 05, I have added 4oz of Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas at every fill up. Been using the stuff for years and can say I have never had any issues with it's use. I know this stuff certainly doesn't hurt any of the items your concerned about. You'll get some folks that will swear your wasting your money using such additives but, MMO has NEVER done wrong by me. My wife's 95 Jeep YJ also uses MMO....zero problems.
Good Luck,
Brant

Thanks Brant fro the reply. That's a new one on me . I have never heard of that product in Canada but I live in a border town so maybe I can get it over the border in USA . Is it available in such stores as Walmart or only at automotive supply stores.
Is it actually a form of injector cleaner or is it an upper cylinder/valve lubricant like we used to use long before fuel injected engines.

No way, fuel injector cleaners are a good thing. I have never heard of them causing a problem with anybody's systems. After all they are specially formulated for that specific purpose. No worries.

Thanks Poacher;
Glad to hear that because I have used them in previous vehichles but was warned not to use them in Hyundai's
I generally use one treatment about every three or four tankfulls so I guess I will continue to do so.

If you take a bottle of injector cleaner, take off the hose from your airbox, pour half of it in there and turn off the engine, let it sit for 5-10 mins, then start the engine, it cleans off the tops of the valves nicely and you get a big puff of white smoke. i did this to my 02 sonata and it seemed to help it run smoother. friend did it to his 01 pontiac sunfire also
