Help! I have a 2000 V6 Sonata> When refueling, the car will begin to run rough and shortly thereafter shut down. After fueling, the car is very difficult to start. It will take several turns of the ignition before a clean start. Once the car starts, there is no problem starting, until the car sits about 20 to 30 mintues. Thanks in Advance Pete

You do realize you're supposed to SHUT THE CAR OFF when fueling, right? Not only is fueling a running vehicle a fire hazard and thus illegal in many locations, but the fuel system is a closed system and needs the gas cap to be properly seated in order to run properly.

On my sons 2005 Sonata if the gas cap is not tight, the Check Engine light will come on.....I'm pretty sure it reads the tank presure or something along those lines..... In this state, car needs to be off when fueling or major fines........ Even if the cap is not tight, he says the light will come on.... Tighten cap and turn off and see what that does...........Swampy

Hi, New to the forum, and saw your problem. THere is a TSB on this, can't remember TSB #. Changed the valve noted in the TSB, and never had the problem again. Took 15 minutes....Almost a year now. Have 2000 Sonata 2.4L 4cyl.

Stalls while fueling????????? Sounds like it stalls because you ran out of gas. May even be a sign that you have some serious problems with your ride. Try turning off the ignition and fueling up. Then close the cap and start it up. You may have gotten some bad watered down gasoline too. Man, stop going to that gas station.
