what kind of oil is used by dealer? (synthetic oil?)

many people have told me if i put in synthetic oil, then i can go w/o oil change for like 7,500 miles..(because of cartridge filter used like BMW)

so dealer is charging me like over $40 for an oil change(due to using cartridge filters), but yet they say i should do oil change in 3,000 miles.

i just want to find out, is it ok to drive about 5,000 miles(if i get an oil change from dealer[regardless of what oil they put in])????

also manual states unless in severe driving condition, i can drive more than 3,000 miles...(what do they mean by "severe"???)

i got my first oil change at a dealer & 3,000miles is comming up...so i just wanted to know what options i have..

thanks guys...

by the way i have 2006 Sonata V6 LX

We do not use a synthetic oil.We use 10w30 mobil1. Ask a BMW owner who lets his oil change go 10,000 miles how many times he has to pay extra to dig the pieces out of his oil filter housing that used to be his filter. Some dealers are not the same in price as for olil changes. (I wish we could get 40.00 a pop). We are like 30. Now for severe driving conditions.Do you sit in rush hour traffic for about an hr in morning and same in evening? Is it warm where you live? Do you have high humidity? Well you have severeconditions and should be changed every 3k miles. Normal driving conditions are if you hit the interstate every morning and your vehicle doesnt sit and get hot. Sorry for answering so late, I have not been able to get on here for a while.

I am in Florida and I'm trying to decide which oil to use in my LX.
So many opinions.

I thought Mobil1 was a synthetic?

Thanks,
Suzanna

Mobil one makes other oils besides synthetic. Now synthetic is the best by far.Its how much money youwant to spend on your oil change .Thats the real decision.

I think you might find another Hyundai Dealer around and check their prices and just ask what kind of oil they use. The Azera uses the oil plug filter that is in the top of the engine. In High Point, NC they use Valvoline 10-30 in my Azera. If you are being charged $40.00 for an oil change, find ANOTHER Hyundai dealership. They are robbing you. The mileage between oil changes is subject to debate. I have always changed oil at 3,000 miles, but the dealership is fussing at me to go at least 5,000 miles between changes. I think they just don't want to spend the money ... since they included free oil changes for one year from the date of purchase of a new car. You might even be able to e-mail different dealerships for answers to your questions and save $$$ on gas and your time.

Mobil does make conventional oil, but it is only the synthetics that are marketed as "Mobil 1".

I have used "Mobil 1" synthethic oil in my vehicles for the past 8 years, and will never use anything else. I have a '95 Ford Ranger with 180K+ miles on it, and it still runs great. It has used "Mobil 1" synthethic oil from the beginning. I am a firm believer in "Mobil 1" .

well, I just do the oil change every 3000 or 3months whichever comes first  even with synthetic
I don't drive in harsh conditions and I don't race.
