I have a 00 tiburon with no catalitic converter, headers and a check engine light. If i install a catalitic converter and disconect the negative wire from the battery to temporarily get rid of the check engine light will i be able to pass smog?

Disconneting the battery cable will only temporarily erase what the trouble code maybe....and if its been reset the car will have to be driven a certain number of miles to be "test ready" before they would attempt to test for emissions.If the check engine light comes on then there needs to be something else besides replacing the converter to allow it to pass emissions.
