We have a 97 Accent GT. A few months ago we replaced the tranny. Now less than 4000 miles later they are claiming a switch that tells the transmission what gear it is in, was making it misfire.

It was taken in because it needed a tune-up, and on the way the check engine light came on. They changed the plugs. Which wasn't needed for quite some time, so I know they were old. The wires, filters (oil and air), and told me the switch is on backorder.

Now when driving home, the check engine light is gone, and so is misfire. Obviously because of the tune-up, and not because of this switch. So, there is $200 extra, plus $120 labor they want to charge me for this switch. Every work order I have, I can run down the parts online. Except this mysterious switch.

Any help on this transmission switch? They never listed the code that the switch threw, which they've always listed prior to this. The only other code I have is 45956-22600 SWITCH-INH. Does it really exist? If so, shouldn't they have replaced it with the transmission?

Thanks

I had the same problem with my 2001 sonata. the check engine light went on and the codes indicated the transmission shift valve and a misfire code. Iunplugged the battery for a few hours and the light went off. i also had the transmission fluid changed. The mechanic said trash in the fluid may have been clogging the valve. So far everthing seems to be fine
