OK, here's the problem. I'm driving on the bridge last night when my check engine light comes on on my 2000 Elantra... I stop the car after I get off the bridge, and the oil cap has magically vanished!! I figured that's what was causing my check engine light to come so I went out and got a new cap. After putting on the cap, I drove it around for a bit, but the light stays on, so now I'm thinking that the cap wasn't the problem and it could be something more serious... HELP!!!!!!!!!!

If theres an Auto Zone store near you they can hook up the machine and tell you what code is generating the check engine light to come on for free......if not then the dealership will do it(no telling what they charge though.)

Hey, first, thanx for replying so quickly :) I'm in Canada so no auto zones... The dealers are closed today as well.... I was hooping somebody might have a suggestion of something to check (I already checked my gas cap ;))

Probably the easiest thing to check is if you gas cap is on all the way.....if its not that will cause the check engine light to come on.Other than that it could be a number of things....hard to tell without having a code to go by.Maybe make sure plug wires on all the way,the cap might have come off and knocked into one....not sure.

Hmmmm... I checked the gas cap, it's on all the way. The wires seem fine too... What I was wondering also was, why the hell would my oil cap fly off????

Who took it off the last time?It has to be turned so that it clicks 3 or 4 times to make sure it is tightened down.....much like the gas cap.Other than that i have no clue how else it would work its way off....if you had someone to change the oil for you that may have forgotten to put it back on.

Ummm, I did it last... And it doesn't click... It just goes on, turns and "locks" It's the oil cap on the header...
