99 Tib

DanOz7Five0 -> 99 Tib (6/22/2006 10:33:35 PM)

Hi, Im new here. Im thinking about getting a 99 Tib for my wife. The one were interested has 70,000 miles. They are asking just under $6000 for it. Its a 4 cyl and stick (which she is going to have to learn to drive) Shes more interested in getting around reliably with good gas mileage than in performance so Im not really looking for a 6cyl.

Any tips on what else to look out for? These cars are hard to find around here. There are dealers with newer ones but that are out of our price range.

Thanks
Dan

I have a '99 Tiburon and once I hit 100K miles things started to go wrong. Like with the tranny. She's a great car otherwise. But if you are looking for reliability, I'd look elsewhere.

Hey, I have a stick 98' ( same as 99's), and I love it. I did have to have some work done on the transmission when there was about 155 000kms on it, but other then that, not any major problems. It had the tranny problems when I bought it, so who knows how hard.... I should say bad the first owner drove it?? Because Tiburon's can be driven hard, a friend of our's Dad used to own a Hyundai dealership, and he said he never had any of the 2.0L engines come in for any major work( ie. pistons, rings, crank etc.) My husband used to have a 97', and now has a 2000, his car has 200 000kms on it, and he hasn't/didn't have any major problems with either of them. My OEM breaks lasted about 160 000km, which I would say is great. They get great gas mileage, especially if you put a cold air intake on, which is cheap, and increases HP. So I would say they are fairly reliable.

Later,
Stacey

From what I hear and my personal experiences Hyundai's are pretty reliable. But even so, I would have to say the most reliable and easily accessible car around is a Civic. They can be bought, sold and worked on anywhere and have decend mechanics and interiors. My Tiburon is an 06 an I just put 3k miles on it and its been runnin great. Time for an oil change :). Stacey, can you point me in the direction for a nice cold air intake system?
