new 06 azera -> help i have an 06 azera (7/6/2006 1:26:43 AM)

I bought a new 06 azera SE 2 weeks ago. i now have 1,000 miles and im not sure if anyone else has had this problem...it likes to lock the torque converter at 1,100 rpms in 5th gear and then it chugs, you push the gas harder and it finally downshifts then locks again in 4th gear and lets say your going up a hill even at 2,000 rpm it will chug and jerk....I called the dealer they are no help at all. kina frustrated I sold my 06 sonata with a 5-speed so i could have my knee operated...I loved that car, im a hyundai fan all the way, its a great car to drive on the freeway just not at light throtle speeds... any ideas?

Use the shiftronic in town, and shift up only to 3rd or 4th gear, so that the engine runs at +-2000 rpms.
The tranny need to learn your drive style, and will start to shift better in time. Also give it a little stick, and don’t baby the car.

Where are you located ?????????

Hey Duke,

Im in Portland Oregon, another thing i noticed is sometimes it dosent do it and runs smooth as can be. I think that i do drive it hard im not scared to floor it and let it shift at redline. its just that the tranny seems stuipd or its a really slow learner.

sorry to hear about your knees and you having to let go of the Sonata. Good thing you were able to have the Azera. I also love that car with the 16-inch whels and its sheet metal. It can realy run from 0 to 60 in 6.1 seconds. However the problem I encountered with it is the noise under the hood, still confused with that though.

Your dealer must solve the problem with the erratic shifting. There is no learning  by the transmission. All azeras have a very slow kickdown and the refusal to shift up is an internal programming defect. Unfortunately, you may need a whole new tranny. If the dealer doesn't relieve the problem consult Hyundai directly on their website.

CORRECTION;

1)      The TCM’s of all Hyundai’s with the “NEW GENERATION” transmission have a FUZZY LOGIC, which allows it to learn the driver drive-style, and adapts its shift programming accordingly.
2)      The transmission is just a slave, and does as the TCM commands. The TCM & the ECM are in constant communication with one another vie CAN-communication. This is how the fuzzy logic can vary the shift pattern.
3)      If the transmission does not shift as expected, then the first thing to do is to cancel the learned logic, which must be done with the dealers scanner (5 minutes operation).

You should be an archiologist for digging up this dinosaur of a thread.

Azeras are very slow to downshift to boost mpg. And there is no 'learning' mode. The tranny shifts as it was programmed to do by Hyundai. Much tooooooo slowly. Try to get a downshift when an 18 wheeler barrels up behind you and you will find out what its like to break into a cold sweat. And 'manually' downshifting doesn't help.
