I regret the day that I bought my 2001 Elantra (used in 2003 with 14,000 miles on it). From almost day 1, the car has a hesitation problem. Whenever the car has been sitting for more than an hour or so, the car hesitates and bucks for anywhere from 10-30 seconds....very dangerous trying to pull out into traffic when the car is hesitating and will not go over 5 mph. Also, as of late, the car is getting very poor gas mileage. Maybe 20 mpg at the most (mix of highway and in-town driving). The car has been back and forth from the Hyundai dealer (Dickson City Hyundai in Dickson City, PA --biggest bunch of con artists and sheenies around). They somehow can never find a problem. Now that the warranty has run out (their wonderful 100,000 miles warranty doesn't apply to used models--even if you buy it from the Hyundai dealer), the car has taken to stalling in the middle of traffic. Please note that this car has been impeccably maintained...oil changes every 3,000 miles, new spark plugs, etc. It is a piece of garbage and I will never even consider a Hyundai again. I'm in the process of unloading this pile of crap, and am going to buy either a Chevy Cobalt or Saturn Ion. No more Korean garbage for me. The people who buy these piles of garbage, thinking they are getting a lower-priced Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla are being duped. The sad thing is, out of our two cars, the more reliable car is my 1996 Honda Accord with 110,000 miles on it. The car still runs like new, with no problems other than wear-and-tear. The Elantra with 40,000 miles on it is a headache. That shows the major quality difference between Hyundai and Japanese companies like Honda.

Sorry you had such bad luck w/your Elantras. I have a 2003 elantra and absolutely love it. NOCCHI, did you go back to the dealership w/that problem? When did you buy it? conorsdad, I am sorry that your elantra has been having so many problems. What has the dealership looked at? Did they check the oxygen sensor or timing belt? Where did you buy your used elantra from? They could of had oil changes every 3k miles but if your driving it rough then your going to have probs. I am sorry that this car gave you a bad taste about hyundai all together. accentgt, nice accents! My hubby has a 2000 elantra gl.

Hey, 1st of all you should have the transfer warranty which is good up to 60,000 miles. My take on the hesitation is your oxygen sensor, plugs and or wires. I've replaced my plugs and wires twice. I bought mine new in 03 and still like driving it. It has over 100,000 miles and still runs like a top. There are some shady dealers out there, try to find another Hyundai dealer that will look at it for you. I would ask specifically about the transfer warranty of 60,000 miles. That should have been explained to you at the purchase. Also at every oil change 3-5000 miles I dump a bottle of concentrated fuel injector cleaner in the tank. Injectors have got to stay clean. I hope you find the problem.
