We just purchased a used 2005 Santa Fe - 2.7L engine w/19k on it - and we're LOVIN' it! The only thing we've noticed is when we first start out (most of the time) and turn the wheel (from a stopped position), there is a groan (kind of like a rubbing sound) from underneath. It's at the dealership today, BUT they're telling me they have another '05 on the lot doing the SAME THING and they're trying to tell me it's "normal" b/c of this. Is this noise normal?????????? Don't want to doubt the dealership, but I also don't want a bigger headache down the road b/c they gave me faulty information. It seems to only do it when we first start out from a stop - even after the vehicle has warmed up. It's also the AWD model if that makes a difference. Otherwise, we absolutely LOVE this vehicle!!!!!!!!! Hubby loves it so much, he's thinking of getting one too! :) Thank you for reading my post, Nicole

Thats not a big deal. When the engine and all the components are cold...and no fluid is running through them actively..the Power Steering pump makes a nice noise. Nothing to be worried about. The Noise will go away after a few minutes of driving. If the sound gets louder or its harder to steer then let the dealer know. But its completly normal. Also if your turning the wheel really hard and holding the steering wheel to the end of its linkage (as far left or right as it can go) it puts a lil strain on the equipment and will make it sound louder then just slightly turning the wheel. Hope this helps

I'd agree with you but it does it even when the engine is warm. If we stop to go into a store or something, when we come out and leave, it groans when I leave the parking space. It seems it is when we first start out, so perhaps it's just the fluid hasn't gotten where it needs to go yet, but even when we warm up the vehicle to clear the windshield, it still does it. So I am concerned........and the dealership said the other 2005's they had on the lot do it too - although they didn't offer to allow me to drive them as "proof". (Incidentally, they gave me the same song and dance on another vehicle we traded in on this one - different make/model/year - but when we took it in for warranty work, they said, "Oh, well, we have another identical vehicle on the lot and it's doing the same thing." Again, they never offered to allow me to drive it for myself, so I'm more than a little skeptical of this answer now.
