Check Engine light, no code

rcacs -> Check Engine light, no code (9/30/2006 10:38:10 PM)

HI, just purchased a 2001 Accent GSI (1.6L/std trans/no air). After about a week of driving it, the MIL came on. I scanned it and it shows no codes. I d/c the battery cable to eliminate the light, but it came back on after a few days of driving, again no code comes up on my scanner, and the scan says MIL off.

Any clues out there?

cheers

I had this problem. First, check to see if there is a hole or leak in the muffler. Next, check for a hole or leak in the flex pipe in the muffler assembly. This is a heavy braided metal pipe. The oxygen sensor is attached to it. It is the sensor which is causing the engine light to go on. A hole in the muffler can be repaired with muffler weld paste or tape. A hole in the flex pipe - it needs to be replaced. Just the flex pipe, not the whole muffler assembly.
Hope this helps.
