Hey ive got an 06 rio and that was about the mileage that i was getting. I have 8150 miles on mine now and i am getting around 32 mpg. you just have to give it time. my mileage didnt increase dramatically until about 5000 miles after that it just kept getting better.

If you get poor mileage consider your driving habits, tire inflation and weight in the vehicle. They will all greatly factor into your mpg rating. Every 50lbs in a vehicle can lower fuel economy by up to 1mpg! Good fluid condition is also a must. Break in period for any engine is 800-1000miles. As the accent requires lots of rpms to keep it rolling, it won't take as long as it would to break in a larger engine. During that time, the piston rings will get seated into the cylinder walls. Once the rings are tight, your mileage should gradually improve as the miles are rolled on.
