I just got the 2005 Sonata LX V6. I also recently upgraded the soundsystem with the new Kenwood cd mp3 player, High wattage rockford 6.5"s for the front, two planet audio 10"s and a Rockwood 700 watt 4 channel amp. Right now 2 channels are powering the rockfords in the front and 2 channels are going to the subs. I eventually plan on replacing the 6/9's in the back deck and using the 4 channel amp for all the in car speakers, and getting a new 2 channel for the subs.


My problem is I have some new 6/9's but don't know how to remove the speaker grating on the back deck to get at the stock speakers to remove them. I assume they have to be removed from the topside since they are drilled in that way.

Any insight would be great, I'm dying to get the new speakers in and try em out.

Hi,

From experience with my Lantra, I can only tell you that I gained access to my 6 * 9's by removing the rear seat squabs and lifting the parcel shelf that way.

Do you have a local audio shop? I'm sure that if you asked nicely, they would give you some guidance. They might throw in the odd disparaging remark about Hyundai engineering, but it's only words, eh!

Just follow the trail back from the speakers and you'll eventually arrive at your starting point. Just a thought, if your staging is going to be front biased(I assume), would the 6 * 9's not run with sufficient fill power from the head unit alone? Wouldn't amping the rears move your staging rearwards?

are you sure that they wont remove from the trunk side? i know that on my nonner, i can fodl the back seats down, and lift the cover away, that exposes the 6x9s

In order to gain access to the speakers you have to fold the seats down.Remove the black facia behind the rear seats. Remove the
3rd brake light assy and then carefuuly lift up the rear tray.Sometimes removing the rear quarter trim panels helps get room. Be sure to route the wiring harness properly that goes across the rear tray.You can route it incorrectly and cause it to rub against the sheet metal causing a short. This job takes about 30-45 minutes to complete for the beginner who has never done one.As a tech and have had several apart it takes me about 20 minutes to replace both rear speakers.
