I have hyundai 2001 accent. at 45000 miles we did oil change, dealer advised us to do 45000 miles service for $230. we were not prepared for that expensive service so we refused. Also we are retired and hardly driving. we have 47000 miles on it and dealer advised us to change the timing belt,  it was another  $500.

I read the manual it says 45000 miles includes timing belt repair or replacement. if we do only 45000 service----are we covered for warranty?

are we supposed to do timing belt now or at 60,000?
please advice.

A timing belt change is a good idea. Cars with smaller engines need to turn at higher rpms to get descent performance which creates more wear and tear on a timing belt. The timing belt controls the valves for the engine, so if the timing belt breaks while you're driving the engine could easily be damanged or seize. I'd ask your dealer if the timing belt change will be covered under warranty. As the dealer gave you a replacement price, I'm sure the repair won't be covered, but you won't know until you ask them as I'm not familiar with the 2001 accent model year warranties. Timing belts generally last 60K or more with regular driving, but if you drive a lot on the highway or out of town it will give you better peace of mind by changing the belt.
