How do you reset the "Check Engine" Light.  I've heard that even if you perform corrective maintainance on the car, that it won't necessarily turn the warning light off on its own.

Hi. I have a lot of issues with my lights...I have heard that you disconnect the battery, wait a few minutes, then plug it back in and restart the car. But I do not know if this works. Your best bet is to get an OBDII scanner, from Walmart or an auto store, read the code, and if it isnt anything to worry about erase it. It is true that the light wont always turn right off when the problem is fixed because the faulty code is stored in the computer until someone (or something) erases it. The scanners are 50 to 80 bucks, or you can take it to a garage and have them turn it off.

just disconnect the battery, go make yourself a sandwich, then hook in back up.

(randomness) also, check your gascap, if its not on all the way it will throw a code, so if it goes on randomly consider checking that before you start tearing your engine apart.

yeah, its not like im not saying an obd scanner isnt better, it just cost money... i cant speak for everyone, but there is a reason i bought a ten thousand dollar car instead of a thirty thousand dollar one, i got no extra cash to buy a tool i may use once or twice.

im only saying that disconnecting the battery is a low cost alternative
