I purchased my beige 2002 Sonata GL in November 2002.  It has 29000 km.  I have had to have the oxygen sensor replaced and the hood has had to be repainted twice!  Is anyone else having paint problems??  Hyundai has warrantied the work but I only have a year left on the warranty and I'm worried the problem isn't gone - only covered up.  Is the problem the paint? the primer?  the metal?

Hi,

It's extraordinary that you have had 130 views of the paint problem
posting and not even one reply. (Forum replies are few and far apart.)

However some Hyundai's do seem to have a paint problem.

I wonder whether it's due to the storage of the cars, or even possibly due to their shipping.

My particular car was made in Korea in 6/98 but it was not sold and put
on the road until 11/99. I wonder where it was in that time. (I know
with some Nissans, someone told me, were once stored by the sea outside
in the open - that was years ago of course but it created a problem -
it makes you wonder.)

Were they stored in the open, or near the sea, - how about the shipping
- were they sealed from the salt air during transit - was any salt
residue deposited on the cars - even at the port?

If your hood has had to be repainted twice then that is a problem.

I am a metallurgist and can tell you it's most unlikely to be the metal
or the primer. More likely it's either the paint application or the
vehicle storage. It could even be the residues on the surface prior to
painting.

Who knows - someone must have some knowledge about this?

Cheers buddies
