Hi everybody Tony Santos from Portugal .
Just bought a used Hyundai Matrix 2001  1.6 GLS Petrol model and have a few questions to ask :
Can anyone tell me if  on start up the engine makes a tapping sound for a few minutes and then dissapeares? is this normal or do i have a problem with the engine?
Is there anyway of improving petrol consumption?

Hi. have you tried changing the oil and filter, could be your filter is choked with dirty oil, so restricting oil circulation to the main bearings, thus allowing bearings to slap around instead of rotating smoothly in a coating of oil.
If the sound it is a top end tapping noise: Dirty oil or wear would effect one or more Hydraulic tappets sticking, due to the piston sticking or oil loss from the poppet valve when the engine has been at rest, so would tap until the piston filled with oil. On some engines the wrong grade of oil would cause this to happen. Trust this is of help and does not confuse.
