I have a 2006 Sonata with some horn issues. I've checked the fuses, they're okay. I hear the click of the fuse when I press the steering wheel. Any sugestions, need the horn to work for inspection.

The click you hear is the relay. If you hear that relay clicking, your fuse is okay. So it may be that even though the relay is clicking, it is not closing all the way (bad relay). In your engine compartment fuse box, you should be able to find that relay. The relays are the rectangular boxes with four connections on the bottom. If you pull the horn relay, then pull one of the other relays with the same part number/same color and swap them out, try that. If the horn works it was either a bad relay or the relay was not plugged in all the way. Swap them back; if it's still working, it was probably just loose.

If none of this makes your horn work, it's probably due to a wiring problem. If you have a voltmeter, make sure two of the terminals in the relay plugs into have 12V on them. If both sides are getting power, check the wiring at the horns themselves (I think they are in front of the radiator; may have to remove the grill)... and check to see you're getting 12V at the horn when the relay is plugged in and the horn button is pressed. If so, and the horns still aren't working, it must be the ground for the horns has come loose.

Basically you just have to work your way through the system.

Bad horns are a common problem on 2006 Sonata. They replaced one of mine before I bought it and then had to replace it again. My problems have been with the low-note horn that is located in the center of the grill. There is a second high-note horn located behind the bumper. I have still had the high-note when the low-note went out.

I myself replaced the tinnie sounding ones on my 2004 with good old Mercury Marquis horns, now she sounds like a regular car:

I did the same thing in both my Escort and my Elantra. On the Escort, I think I used the Marquis horns as well; on the Elantra, I got a dual note horn of an old salvage yard Nissan, and both to the single horn I already had. The result I like to describe as "angry European".
