Automatic transmission Hyundai accent:

Symptoms: Car goes into first gear very well. usually never shifts into second gear. Goes up to red line without shifting.
10% of the time, the car shifts hard into 2nd gear. there is a substantial jolt. Then the car goes back to first gear quickly.

whats wrong? what should I look at? what should I replace?

i have had this problem many times due to issues with hyundai parts , i have had to have the transmission pulse generator replaced several times it is responsible for the actual shifting of the gears electronically its about $150.00 to replace at the dealership part #45955-38051 it usually took 3 or 4 days for the check engine light to come on with the code

You can check that. Just a suggestion.. It worked for me... there is a product called trans tune, you can get it at autozone.. walmart... etc... its only like 6 bucks... and you just put it in the transmission fluid. Also, have you changed the filter lately? If you get that clogged, it will do the same type simptoms. I would check the transtune first, and see if that works... you will have to drain some fluid out of the pan to ensure that you don't go over the limit of fluid for the system.
