Our 02 Santa Fe has developed a clutch problem that when the vehicle is hot and the clutch pedal is depressed the clutch does not disengage.According to Hyundai Australia this is unheard of but after many calls back and forth Hyundai state that it may be a fault with the Duel Mass Density Flywheel .Has anybody had this happen? as Hyundai claim that is a first The vehicle is still under warrenty and we are still in dispute as to who is going to pay to repair this fault.Tell this to pedestrians this when they are run over because the Santa Fe doesn't stop at a crossing

I beleive this vehicle has a hydraulic accuated clutch with a master and slave cylinder.  I would check the fluid level to make sure the system is full.  Then the next time the clutch heats up and develops the symptom, have someone pump the clutch pedal (engine off and parking brake set) while you lay under the vehicle to see if the slave cylinder is actually moving back and forth.  I suspect you have a seal failing in the slave (but could also be in the master) that leaks when it gets heated up.

Yes, it could be the flywheel problem, but it could also be the hydraulic cylinders on the clutch mechanism.  Flywheel replacements (which will replace the entire clutch kit) are major surgery and quite costly.  Repairing a slave or master clutch cylinder is a fairly easy and a much cheaper repair.  I would have a dealer or repair shop check out the cylinders before investing in the flywheel solution.
