Can I use, say, Mobil 1 Trans. Fluid in my 2005 Tuscon V6 Auto Trans./ Power Steering ? I don't want to be tied to the Hyundai SP-111 Oil?   Any good Alternatives. I know Coastal is one.

You must, must, MUST use only SP-III in your AT to keep the warranty intact.  Hanging around on several Hyundai forums, I can say this:  just about every internal transmission failure I've heard about on a Hyundai is the result of either not servicing the transmission at all (and it goes somewhere around 100,000 miles), or servicing the AT with the wrong AT fluid (and then it goes MUCH sooner!)

I have seen some people who have used other brands of transmission fluids with certain additives to mimic the properties of SP-III without having failures, but even those cases might be just a matter of time until the AT lets go.  Unless you're a petroleum engineer and can identify exactly what makes SP-III different, AND can formulate a replacement that will function the same in your transmission, WHY RISK IT?

I understand and agree. Mobil doesn't even make a Synthetic equal to the SP-111. It's my friends car and has 30K mi. on it.We strongly believe in preventive maintenance. He had a 97' Elantra that we got allmost 250K miles out of it.Original Starter , Alternator CV Joints even.Remarkable Cars.

Thanx Doohickie
