I've seen conflicting information online (not just here) that say the auto tranny filter is not a replacable item. Anyone know if this should be replaced when draining/filling the auto tranny?

On my 02,2.4 santa fe there is a rough in for a filiter on top of trany. There is no filter there.I was told there is only a screen on the inside .I just take out drain plug and replace fluid. You could get it flushed out.I installed an inline filter and will replace at around 30, 000.

Thanks for the reply. I think we will need something bigger in the near future so I'll probably just to a drain and a fill. I have also been toying with the idea of keeping it as a spare cause I know the dealer will not give a whole lot for it and it is paid off. If I do I will really consider putting in an in-line filter.

Can you do a flush at home? I know when you do your cooling system you can buy a bottle of stuff to flush the cooling system, but I'm not sure about the tranny.

I've read abut it ,it involves opening up cooler line and eather starting or cranking the moter and adding new fluid in tranny at the same time. The quick lube places have a pump for that.
