Hi, Have a 04 sonata with the 2.4 DOHC ,got it for my wife an she just loves it , have had it back to the dealer 4 times with a evap problem , they say its because we live on a dirt road, well to get to the point of this its a small filter some dumb engineer put up in the left rear fender behind the tire an left it open around it so the dust could get in . got tired of replaceing it at each oil change so did some changeing on it , closed up some of the gaps in the bottom of the fender around it and installed a set of mud flaps , Used my scanner an cleared the code an its been 5 months now an no check eng. light , Wife works 75 miles away so miles add up fast , was changeing oil an that filter every month , So if any of you guys or gals are haveing problems like this you might give this a try worked for me . Have a good day Slimone

That po446 will be back unless you have had the close canister valve changed. I can count on one hand how many were filters stopped up. The close canister valve will not function correctly causing canister to build up vacuum. Now other things can cause a po446 like excessive topping of the fuel tank causing raw fuel to enter the system which will ruin the dps sensor. Now next time your po446 comes along take a look at tsb 04-30-001 on hmaservice.com. Most times I have seen the close canister valve go south.

Hi . well my huyndai dealer has replaced each an every piece of the evap system , I think because they could not figure out what piece was bad . So I have been takeing out the small filter each I do a oil change and blow it out {this is the one up in the rear fenderbehind the left rear tire } and each time it needs it ,covered with dust , still think that is a BAD place to mount it , because about half of the roads here in arizona are dirt roads , So far it has been working for me , They also said it was not covered on my warranty, so much for a bumper to bumper lol still a good car just some screwed up designs on their evap system. thanks Slim , PS also do watch the filling of fuel an turning of the gas cap till it clicks at least 3 times .

I do believe that part is covered until 60k miles. I have not seen where it is a recommended maintenance item such as engine air filter or cabin air filter. I would get the part # and contact Hyundai directly to verify.
