Sensors Codes

Hello everyone,

I took my car(SONATA 2000 V6 2.5L) to a Hyundai dealer because of a “Check Engine” light on, and the following codes came back

Engine Control Module (ECM)

P0154 o2 sensor no activity (b2/s1)
P0134 o2 sensor no activity (b1/s1)
P0335 crank sensor

Ok so my questions are
1- Canany mechanicschange these sensors or does it have to be the dealer?
2- Is there a procedure booklet that tells you how to change them?

I am asking these questions, because the price the dealer gave me is like $700 to change them and honestly I think it is too much….

Thanks in advance

RE: Sensors Codes

[align=left]Sorry for not answering you post sooner.

First of all, any mechanic can change these sensors, the question is which ones should be changed.

[align=left]The first thing I would do is to reset the codes and see if the engine light comes back. It's rare that you get both oxygen sensors and the crank sensor all at the same time, so maybe this is a fluke. You can go to Autozone for free, and they will read and reset the codes for no money.

[align=left]If the codes do come back, you can have any mechanic change them as they are all common problems. The oxygen sensors are relatively easy, the biggest problem there is that they are really hard to get out since they get seized in the holes. I'm not sure about the crank sensor, but I would guess it's inside the timing belt cover, thus it is hard to get at to change. Probably you would want to change the timing belt at the same time.
