Tucson Engine Performance Increase?

I just bought a 2017 Tucson SE with the 2.0 four cylinder GDI engine, 6 speed auto/Shiftronic. I know it's not a performance engine, but was wondering what simple additions/changes could be made to increase engine performance/HP? I do not want a Cat-Back performance exhaust system. Is there anything else that would increase performance and still pass smog tests in CA, USA?

Hmmmm, no replies....

OK, I've decided to drop an aftermarket reusable dry air filter in it. I know there are some brands out there that can be washed and reused that don't use oil on them. Anyone suggest a brand?

If you dont mind spending the extra money you can get a great quality one from K&N. When I got mine I noticed the difference in about 1-2 weeks. The computer has to learn the difference because it dont think it made a noticable change at first. Also I learned a little trick with my 2013 Tucson 2.4L and I'm sure you have it too. If you take off traction control it makes my Tucson a completely different car. I'm sure you noticed when you slam on the gas you might get a slight hesitation. Many people think it's because the Tucson is underpowered. It is clearly not because without traction control I peel out and am doing 60 in what feels like 6.5 seconds. Try it and you will notice a different monster but hopefully you have good tires. I went through my front tired pretty quick enjoying it too much.

I don't know how much the changes pay off in normal driving, but if it provides plenty of jump off power when starting off, be prepared to spend some $$$ on motor mounts. Jack rabbit starts rips them apart and now extra expenses are knocking at the door.
