2000 Accent piston removal
Hi, would anyone know if it's possible to remove the pistons from a 2000 Accent by removing the sump only with the engine still in the car and replace pistons with new rings the same way?

I have never done such a thing.
And to be more precise, I watched as someone else was doing it
It was always take engine out, take the head off and flip engine
Then remove the oil, pan, sump, then crank caps and pistons
I would guess it might be possible
But, it is an interference engine
Don't want the piston to accidentally hit those valves
And those caps on the crank are on tight
You would think that once you got the nuts off that the caps would just fall out
Anyway, I wish you luck

Yeah a bit rough I know. Car is old and 230,000k's on clock. Has been overheated at some stage and the top end repaired. Rings have gone soft and uses a little oil. I thought if it was possible it might be a quick way to restore the engine to some health. Probably better look at swapping motor out. But hey, someone may have given it a go.
