Default Tranny Problems.......

I have a 2003 Tib with a 5 speed tranny. Sometimes when I stop if I roll to a stop with the car in second or third gear, I am unable to get it out of gear. Once I turn the car off then it moves freely. I cannot find any way to actually make it happen, it is pretty random from what I can tell so far. I have checked the clutch fluid and it is full. I have not had any problems getting it in gear, and it has never slipped out of gear. Any ideas out there???

[align=left]Why would you want to roll to a stop with the trans in second or third gear anyway? You should take it out of gear into neutral before you get to stop, or at least put it in first.

i think he's just engine breaking, raises the rpm's, cuts off fuel for deceleration, and the higher rpms slows the car down.

since you need to turn the car off to fix this i'd almost think its an electronics problem...rare on a 5spd for any car, but i suppose it can happen. any check engine lights? maybe see if the computer has stored any error codes.

Go further and change the trans fluid.

Good luck

Thanks for the help guys, just got back from the shop today. It has started doing it in first and reverse also. The Mec. said he wasnt sure why it was doing it but may be something in the sync? or the master/slave cylinders. He cant promise this will fix it, and I am new in town so not sure i trust him 100% and dont want to waste a couple hundred $$$ and it still not work properly. We flushed the tranny fluid and it didnt work any better. I brought up the electronic idea to him and he couldnt think of anything that would control it in that lane..Any additional ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the help you have already provided.
