Hey guys please help.
a couple of days ago i was driving on the hwy and the car just lunged, check engine light came on and the car didnt shift out of gear. I shut the car off and then restarted the car the check engine light was still on but the carwas shifting and driving normal. When I got home I disconnected and reconnected the battery, started the car and the light went off, the car has been driving normal untill today. The same thing happened again.
I have just had alot of work done at the dealer and am hoping this is nothing major. Times are rough

RE: 2001 sonata transmission problems

Have the memory scanned to determine the error code(s) indicated by the check engine light being on. If you are the original owner and the car has less than 100K on the odometer, a tranny problem should be covered under the 10 year/100K powertrain warrenty. Once you have an error code or codes in hand, there are several forum members (NovaResource, HyundaiTech, Madindian1, Doohickie come to mind) that are very good at interpreting the situation.
