96 elantra wont shift from park.
 

My 96 elantra wont shift out of park. The button wont push in to allow shifting from park. please help!!!

Sounds like the button itself it broken. I don't have an auto, so I don't know. Do you have to put your foot on the brake to push the button?

Well the thing is, is you shut the car off and turn it back on, sometimes several times, the button will magically work and your on your way. Right now my wife is stuck at work and has been trying to leave for half an hour.

I am guessing that the brake light switch under the dash is going bad or has a loose wire.
