ABS LIGHT

The ABS light on my Hyundai Coupe SE (1998) keeps coming on intermittently. It mostly comes on when I am accelerating and often stays on until the journey end. Also the actual ABS seems to kick in when I break lightly. Any ideas ??

You need to have someone read the codes for you. Most likely a faulty wheel speed sensor.

on most newer cars, a low break fluid level can cause issues with the dummy lights..i woudl check the fluid level, and if its ok...take it to a corporate shop such as meineke or monro....they should have an ABS systme scanner....the price may vary...

The H-brake light comes on if the level is too low.
Only a HD-dealer can read the codes and cancel the light. As tech1 states, it is most likely a speed sensor.
The moment you brake, a "brake on signal" goes to the ABS. The ABS calculates the fastest possible slowdown rate of the wheels, and intervenes with the wheel that slows faster then the others. This will occur at any brake pressure/rate.

duke is most likely right but check that pluid first no sense of paying the dealer which will probably charge you to put some fluid in it
