changing trans fluid on 01 XG300?

I went into the dealer today to have a air bag wire replaced and while i was there they told me my transmission fluid was real dark and they suggested changing it. They quoted me 180 dollars to do it.

I have read that Hyundais use a specific trans fluid? Does anybody know how much the fluid costs and is it only available from Hyundai dealers? Also, would changing the trans fluid be a difficult task on this model? tryin to save a few bucks. Thanks

The trans fluid required changing every 30K miles. Yes, Hyundai uses a specific fluid. Hyundai automatics REQUIRE SP-III transmission fluid. No, you don't need to buy Hyundai's trans fluid, ant trans fluid that is SP-III will work. However, $180 to change the fluid is not a bad price. I'd suggest you just let the dealer do it.

The problem is it's hard to get the fluid out of the torque converter. Some people do it by draining the pan, fill the pan, drive the car for a week, drain the pan, fill the pan, etc, etc, until it's clean.
